Desa Garongan is
a tourism village which located at Garongan, Wonokerto, Turi, Sleman,
Yogyakarta. When the sky is clear, visitors can see the beautifulness of Merapi
Mountain. It is because the location is not really far from that active
mountain. Ideal time to take the pictures of it is when it is dusk orin the
morning because the mountain looks pretty with some rays of the sun.
This village is
not far from central city of Yogyakarta and it is accessible because the street
is pretty good. From Tugu Yogyakarta (Diponegoro street, it just take 34 minutes to
arrive at Garongan Village. However, if it starts from Adisudjipto Airport,
then you need 47 minute to come to the village.
The idea of
tourism village for Garongan Village itself, start in 2006 when Merapi Mountain
had eruption. There were so many people who evacuate in this village because it
was a safe zone. That time, the villagers felt like were are not the owner of
the village when they were. Then, the idea to make Garongan Village as tourism
village appeared as they realized that the village has potentials to become one
of it with the main attraction was the scenery of Merapi Mountain.
The activities
that offered in this village including Camping, Tracking with pick Salak Fruit
and Fishing.
For Camping
activity, this village provide a large camping ground which has capacity up
until 500 people. Besides, it has proper facilities that needed like restrooms,
they have around ten restrooms and this area provided electricity.
The other
activity is tracking, it can be done on land which passes through Salak Fruit
plantation, here the visitors can pick Salak Fruit for free. Another one is
through the river with clear water; this river is a companionship between two
flows so that it has swift flow.
The last
activity is fishing. Garongan Village has pond fish which located at northern
village. In this activity, visitors can go fishing and cook the fish that they
caught. There are some fishes like Nilas and Mujairs.
